Fashion Tip of the Week .21

OK, so I know some of you have been deprived of my fashion tips. So here is a new update. So here is a new update. Fashion week (more like months) are still rolling in and more and more designers are suprising me more and more. And it seems that many of you respond to pictures and one of my most popular posts was layering. So lets talk about specific layering. What I like to call "Hot/Cold Layers"

FASHION TIP OF THE WEEK #21: So I dont want to repeat my layering tips because that is unique within itself. Or I dont ever want to repeat myself with last week's tip.

Here is my theory on Hot/Cold Layers (some of you may find simple-minded): As much as it is great to wear pratically nothing, there should always be a method of layering. Hot/Cold layers focuses on layering different things that mix with the current weather.

So here are things you might want to consider - my rules on things you should NEVER layer together:

1_ When the weather is cold/rainy, absolutely never, NEVER be stupid and wear a skirt and a thin material top.

2_ A (puffy) jacket should NEVER be combined with a skirt.

3_ Denim jeans or skirts should NEVER be worn with leg warmers. Ladies, that ship has sailed off with the early 90s.

4_ With a longer coat NEVER wear short stubby shoes. Basically, coats that go past the rear (in length) should always be worn with a higher heel.

5_ Who ever said never wear white after labor day should be instituted. White can be worn But NEVER, wear mono-chromatic outfits. If you are going to wear a light color, layer it with warm tones

6_ Mid-drifts are okay to show but if you refer to my layering post, more thin layers (you will want more than 2) = the better. So NEVER wear layers that makes you lose your curves in your outfit.

7_ Accessories are HUGE when layering. But, NEVER wear bulky accessories that take away from your GREAT layering. (i.e. bulky scarves.)

8_ Lace can only cover so much. Girls, NEVER overdo it with the layering of the lace. Its cute but too much can take it away.

9_ A silk charmeuse top may be cute for summer or for clubbing but NEVER wear it with cold weather. So basically, NEVER wear tops that will make your headlights turn on. (I know by stating that, I have disappointed millions of guys). Avoid material like that for Fall/Winter.

10_ Try to AVOID colors like black, beige, tan, brown (unless its khaki or dark or walnut)/(for girls- quite biased, i know). Remember to mix warm with cool tones. It spices up an outfit.

So good luck ladies. I know I didnt include pictures, but next week's topic will be solely be pictures. Tell me if you have any problems understanding my rules. (I kinda had to do this in a hurry).

Fashion Tip of the Week .20

So hey girls, I had this elaborate thing I was going to speak about but suddenly i wanted to talk about fashion faux pas! Its because some chick near me is a major fashion no no!

FASHION TIP OF THE WEEK #20: So lets talk about correctly putting an outfit together....

NEVER, absolutely, NEVER wear boots with an skirt that goes past your knees! Peasant skirts should NEVER be worn with granny panties because well, its see through. Try layering something underneath it to prevent that area from showing.

And girls, not always does black, white and red work together. Red lipstick, black shirt and boots and white skirts arent gonna cut it. (Well at least from what i see in front of me. UGH!)

How to fix this: Even tho, she was big, she should have worn a more sleeker skirt-knee high. She should have worn a looser shirt. Flat ironed her hair and used a nude shade of lipstick to make her lips fuller in shape.

Remember to pick slimming clothes vs. tight clothes. THERE IS A DIFFERENCE GIRLS!

Which gets into my tip of the week... Dont wear clothes that where your body gets lost in it. Meaning... wear things that fit your body. Places that hit your curves are better than wearing things that force your body in a different direction (ie. creating stomach rolls).

NEW IDEA: how bout y'all submit photos of what you think is a bad outfit combo and ill fix it for y'all!

Remember: Check back next week for the next fashion tip! Always dress to look your best (Even if it's a pair of sweats and a tee)!

Fashion Tip of the Week .19

Okay lets try this again. I was finished but for some reason the internet didnt work on me and I lost everything! So Like i said, i promised I would do this for all of you. It is going to be short and sweet and I thought I would pick out some outfits (since you girls like it so much) that I think you would need for your fall/spring wardrobe (more spring than fall).

FASHION TIP OF THE WEEK #19: So like I said, some new things to look for. If you recall, I put some staple items that are essentials for spring. Fabrics: chiffon [even with casual outfits!]. Okay. So i was intrigued by some designers' line.

Ralph Lauren - 1, 2, 3, 4

D&G - 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 ---Outfits... NOT THE HAIR!

Enjoy and remember as a cautionary note: I SUPPLY THE PICTURES/OUTFITS.... you find the outfit LIKE that but not necessarily from that designer. Hell if you can get it for 3 dollars at Forever 21..then go for it! Gluck

Fashion Tip of the Week .19 - Guys Edition

So i was speaking to my friend recently about fashion and he had asked me a question about layering and how it applied to guys... which prompted me to really think... do guys really have any fashion sense at all or they trying to compensate for something else? This edition is meant for you guys and girls to learn how to properly wear layered clothing (and for you girls to teach your man how to!)

FASHION TIP OF THE WEEK #18:

So this resurrected Guy's edition is only because it was requested. Layering for guys...

Here is the proper technique for correctly layering guys. Pay attention!

My rules:

#1- DONT WEAR THE SAME COLORS WHEN LAYERING!

#2- Faded shirts (of the same color) does NOT count! - That is very distateful.

#3- When layering, thin layers work best.

#4- Tanks over tanks are a no no

#5- Polo over polo is NOT acceptable AND the popped up collar is only acceptable if you correct neck length!

#6- Constrasting colors are important! Black on black is NEVER NEVER an acceptable look.

#7- Layer different types of fabric (for example cotton button up with a merino vest or a merino v-neck sweater)

#8- If the shirt contains stripes never never pair it up with a stripe jacket OR sweater! Solids and stripes work best when they are together... not stripe with stripe.

#9- the longer shirt SHOULD ALWAYS be bottom layer than the top one. (Exception: If the shirt is a white-beater it is okay for it be shorter or an undershirt).

#10- The whole point of layering is to show off different pieces so make sure that the under layer is showing in a significant manner.

#11- My special cardinal rule. Wear colors that matches your skin tone. Or your complextion. Few can only pull off pink or orange. Dont try unless you got the skin tone for it. Wear colors that will enhance your look in a positive aspect.

Some staple things you should layer:

_Long sleeve button ups with vests OR v-neck sweaters for a classy look.

_Polos with a "wife/white-beater" that is another color. Rich colors underneath if the polo is light and pastels/lighter colored beaters under a polo that is dark. Unbutton the polo to show off the beater. Contrast guys

_V-neck short sleeves matched with fitted long-sleeve shirts with a crew neck.

_Print-tees with (non insulting wording) with jackets. Vintage looks always great.

_Never layer denim on denim! Meaning Denim jacket with denim pants. Denim jackets are good with cargo shorts.

_Blazers are good with casual clothing...minus the shoulder pads of course.

Well that are some of the stuff that you take into consideration. Gluck fellas. and remember layering a sport jersey with long sleeve tees or a plain white short sleeve tee does NOT count! Dress for your girlfriend!

Fashion Tip of the Week .18

So fall is here but to me, spring and summer looks are still lingering around. I know the weather is hot so this should give you some time to collect the things you should get for the cooler weather to come. So here are your staple items for this fall!

FASHION TIP OF THE WEEK #18:
So some staple items that you are going to want to pick out:

1_ the wide scarves - no point in the flimsy thin scarves that do no justice. Talk about keeping yourself warm.

2_ fake fur - this is alternative to the scarves. Perfect for a "from day to night" look.

3_ Embroidery - Once again, i emphasize the embroidery items. Enough said about that.

4_ Men's cut trousers - perfect for the urban chic look. This is great because it is out of the ordinary. Go vintage/rummage shopping, ull find some great trousers that will complete your look

5_ Folklore skirts - tired of the denim frayed skirt look? well folklore is back in and you will see that store's holiday collection have more of a short skirt folklorey type material/look.

6_ Jersey tops - NO GIRLS, NOT ACTUAL SPORT JERSEYS! the shirt jersey tops are now updated (so go to those stores like forever 21 or AE or Gap in a month or two and you will be able to find Jersey tops). Then pair it up with a wide belt that you normally wear around the rear (loosely) put it on top of the jersey top to accentuate the waist.

7_ Waist high coats - any material is fine... just make sure its tailored to your body and pair it up with a print-tee and you are set!

8_ Chiffon tops - hello, if you insist on wearing the denim skirts during winter then a chiffon top will go well with your skirt or denim.

So a summary of what look you are going for... rustic, vintage, mod- look. Gluck!

Since I know you love photos here are some that will help you: Zac Posen - 1, Go to the H&M its just a couple of quick clicks and you'll see what I am talking about. It was all in flash that is why i didnt put it on here.

[PS. Aly your print-shirts are going to be perfect for fall]
