Happy Holidays Everyone! I've been on again off again sick due to the harsh weather. In this edition of the Fashion Breakdown, I'm giving a review of a boutique I visited recently. Perhaps if you are looking for gifts this season and happen to be in the gaslamp/downtown San Diego region, you should check this place out.

The "Society Breakdown": I recently paid a visit to the Dianne O. Atelier (between F&G St on 9th Avenue) after meeting her assistant at the FIDM private industry event.

The store is quite beautiful and provides a certain airy-ness about it. It's everything you think when it comes to a boutique. The clientele focus is a bit upscale from what a lot of you may be used to because the clothes are, yes, a bit pricey. However, as I was browsing through her selection, you could tell that many of them are fashion forward and unique pieces. If you are looking for items that closely resemble that on the runway, then this is the place to get it. The pricing is a median between department stores to stores on Rodeo Dr. However, makeup is one of her specialties and it is affordable! I know you'll appreciate the personal shopping experience when visiting Dianne O.'s Atelier.

My only criticisms is that the location of the shop is away from that of Horton Plaza and a lot of the other "boutiques." That is a deterrent from fashionistas that don't want to make the effort to travel out that far. Also, the boutique lacks a staple item that is San Diego... denim jeans. Granted, it is a hard to carry a range of sizes but its San Diego which is primarily an Action-Sportswear region. Premium denim could go far.

But you know Dianne O. knows her stuff when her work has appeared in Glamour, GQ and Vogue [just to name a few]. So go check it out for yourself, and who knows, you'll discover a key piece that you may like.

The Fashion Breakdown .58

Welcome back, wow, what a welcome back! I've reached my 3400+ mark! So thank you to everyone for coming back! So I'll be throwing in a few commentary pieces as part of my effort to offer my readers a glimpse into fashion events. I'll be calling this... "Society Breakdown."

As previously mentioned, I attended the FIDM San Diego Debut and a private industry FIDM open house event. Here is my review their new campus and a some up and coming designers to watch out for in the near future.

The "Society Breakdown": FIDM San Diego has relocated next to Petco Park. I got the privilege to attend their Debut show along with hundreds of aspiring fashionistas.

FIDM Campus_ The interior campus is designed by famed architect Clive Wilkinson. The campus had a mod-chic feel; utilizing vibrant colors (hues of yellow and orange), odd plastics and poly-foam-type material to add to the open ambiance. However, I felt at times, it got too Ikea for me with the odd plastics. And I would also ask, how environmentally friendly are these items? Nonetheless, that doesn't distract from the beautifully designed campus. If you ever get a chance to travel up to the 15th floor of the Cox Building the view is to die for. You get a beautiful 180 view of downtown.

I had opportunity to meet designer/FIDM instructor Nick Verreos of Bravo's Project Runway. The following are photos I managed to take during the soiree. Picture_1, Picture_2, Picture_3

FIDM Debut_ This debut was an opportunity to introduce to your competing FIDM 3rd year students. The following are up and coming designers whose pieces I fell in love with:

Hideka Minami - For her innovative use of tweed outerwear.
Jonique Washington - For her take on menswear bulky knits.
Chelsea Titzer - For her use of fringe, feathers!
Angela Avanesyan - My favorite collection of them all! Her use of soft pleats on chiffons on metallic solids.
Richard Chan - For his Eastern inspired evening-wear. I can definitely see him doing haute-couture pieces.

The Fashion Breakdown .57

These are my picks for this season's latest trends. I tried to give a bit of everything so if you're feeling bold, go for it! I know a lot people have been waiting for this comeback and I hope to not disappoint. Enjoy!

The Fashion Breakdown 57: After reviewing this season's collection, here are several trends I think will make a big impact for this fall season.

The Minimalist_ Basics is the theme for this trend. Think: grays, blacks, whites, clean and precise cuts are the look. What is this season's new black? Well the answer to that is BLACK! However, it is important to mention that minimal or simplistic does not mean boring. Look 1, Look 2, Look 3

The Curves_ Designers focused on the woman's natural curves. Many of you may not see any difference but there is actually a difference with a-line skirts taking of a more voluminous feel or jackets with puffed sleeves as small examples. Embrace your natural curvy figure. Pleating will help those who may lack in certain areas. Flaring around the waist is a common theme in this trend. Look 1, Look 2 (think Carrie Bradshaw), Look 3

The Countryside_ Think layers of tweed and velvet. Don't be afraid to even go as far as fur (faux that is!). Don't be afraid to wear tweed pantsuits and checkered pieces to work. The look concepts you will want to think of is horseback riding suits and trips to the country. Utilize those knee high boots! Look 1, Look 2, Look 3

The "tall" type_ Length length length! Waist-line high trousers and long coats and dresses overtook the runway. Now I must advise... this look are for my taller readers. For the shorter readers: long coats, extending scarves/ accessories will make up for any difference in leg length! Look 1, Look 2, Look 3

The prints_ You will notice that when it comes to adding an oomph of color in your wardrobe, designers utilized prints (some used painted prints of all sorts and others used floral type prints). Splashes of colors of tees, dresses will definitely make you stand from the crowd. Enough with the solids, incorporate some prints in your wardrobe! It's okay to be bold without making you the center of attention. Look 1, Look 2 (Love this one!), Look 3

I am back and I wanted to thank everyone for coming back to read my blog. Yes, my hiatus is over. I've been on the fast track back to fashion. Recently, I attended LA Fashion Week for the Spring 2009 collection and FIDM's 2008 Debut show. I've been asked before if I've ever been an intern for any fashion show or magazine. I would like to write about my experience as a fashion show intern during fashion week.

The Fashion Breakdown 56: I found the show through Craigslist. It was a day internship at a lounge in Beverly Hills. The day began with the interns waiting around for the models to show up. After being assigned to a model, we began the process of final fittings. The designer was still deciding which outfits she wanted the models to wear. It was a bit odd since I was expecting that the decision would've been already made. It was so disorganized that some of the outfits were still at the dry cleaners. So after a few try-ons, we had to lump together the outfits that the models were to wear in the show (which averaged 3 to a model). It was my responsibility to determine which accessories belong to each outfit based off a grainy printed out photo of the outfit. It turns out that they only made one copy of a skirt that was to be used multiple times. So, the interns had to determine what order the models would go in since they shared select pieces. I decided I'd take another model since there were a few models left over. Since we had a lot of downtime, I spoke with the other interns about their experiences in fashion and got a lot of insight. As the show came near, the interns ended up choosing the shoes for the models. As the show came near, we made last minute preps and boom! After the lineup was finalized, everything happened withing a few minutes. And the show was done! I remember trying to prep for this and not having anyone write about their experience.

My advice in this type of situation:
1) Anticipate problems.
2) Be creative with the things you have (mine was double stick tape!).
3) Timing is everything so make sure you have a routine down.
4) Offer to help as much as you can.
5) Don't be afraid to take on more models.
6) If there is any down time, talk to the other interns. You should get a feel or recommendations to further your career.
7) Be confident.

Im back with another breakdown of the latest and hottest trends to hit today's celebrity obsessed youths!

The Fashion Breakdown 55: This week I want to depart from couture and typical runway looks and find casual chic outfits to set you apart from others. Ladies this entry is for you!

A lot of what you are seeing these days on the runway or with celebrities like Katie Holmes or Victoria Beckham are crop jackets. Here is a cool chic look that places emphasis on your wardrobe. This jacket, tank, skinny jeans, and heels (or if you must... flats). That POP of red will just elevate your outfit.

Here is another great look for everyday outting, "flared" "painter's top" tanks are the in thing. Think small at the top and oversized as we go down the shirt; cropped shorts; and finally a great pair of shoes to your liking... This is emphasizing the nautical look while embracing unique prints.

The Fashion Breakdown #54: Because this is right on time with the Highly Anticipated Men's fashion show in Paris. I thought I would take Men's Style.com and break it down for you to things...well all of us guys could wear and clothes that you girls would be comfortable having your man wear.

So here are looks, I think will stick for Spring 2008 (remember dress forward).

Intense Piercing colors_ Many of us are comfortable with neutral colors but lets be honest, we dont want to drown in a sea of greys, blacks, and browns. Try to add a bit of intense reds or rich colors in the wardrobe. Here are some examples: Look1, Look2

Light Layering_ No need for layering thick pieces over thick pieces. This trend is to simplify the layering process, while giving your look a complexity that is associated with layering. Think about it, you want someone to think "Damn, that guy's look is so effortless, yet so well put together". Look1, Look2 (very Adam Levine), Look3

Cropped Pants_ Yes guys, girls have their city shorts and gauchos... expect to see alot of cropped pants. I think the looks speak for themselves: Look1, Look2

these looks aren't very hard to obtain. Just make sure you keep a good eye out for those pieces in thrift stores and other places.

The Fashion Breakdown .53

So welcome back all of you to the fashion breakdown. I apologize for the delay in updating this thing as work has been keeping me busy. I'm sure you know what that's like. After all you know it takes me a bit of time to do the research!

The Fashion Breakdown #53: This entry is about the looks for summer. I think its due-time for a men's and women's guide.

Women's guide:
Look 1_ Ladies, what better way to express this season's colors by wearing an interpretation of this look. Take a jersey dress which incorporates this season's hottest trend with a little bit of poof/oomph to the clothing piece. Any girl can pull this off and best part about it... it hides any curves you are working on getting rid of for the summer!
Look 2_ This is another hot trend for ANY occasion... of course many of your know alot of teens are wearing leggings with their outfits. Well no more, here is my rule on how long your leggings should sit on your legs: make sure they never pass the top of the calf but they should meet at the middle of the knee. And of course the little black dress doesnt hurt either!
Look 3_ And of course... the simple baby doll. This is an update on the baby doll. Notice how it doesnt use elastic scrunch bands around the bust. Its more of a roushing effect thereby making the bust appear larger and the cinching below the bust gives the appearance of a small waist line.

Men's guide:
Look 1_ This look is inspired for the traveler during the summer. A light-weight cotton button-down shirt tucked into "cropped" shorts matched with a striped belt. Embrace the pastels and light colors of the summer.
Look 2_ Whoever said blazers cannot go with shorts was terribly mistaken. You see here a double-brested yellow coat paired with a regular thin tee and destroyed denim shorts. Its good enough to catch those summer breezes while maintaining that o-so-summer look (Okay that was a bit cheesy, lol).
Look 3_ I havent forgotten about those who like to dress up. Here you'll see a short-sleeve cuffed shirt matched with a tailored-vest. Really this look is versatile to be paired up with denim, dress slacks, or dress shorts.

Remember that these looks are versatile. I've given you a template so go out there and adjust it to your own individual style.

So you might notice a new title, yes, I think it would be hypocritical to have it stay the tip of the week if I didnt do a weekly blog. Onto the tip!

The Fashion Breakdown #52: This entry will focus on Spring 2007 trends: Sport's wear (active wear), The romantics, Pinup Girls, 80s, Space, and Geometrics.

Sport's Wear_ there has been a strong surge of designer active wear mixing with ordinary styling.Think... leggings! Look 1; Look 2;Look 3

The romantics_ this look is inspired by floral arrangements and what spring represents. The idea that I want you to take is lush colors like violets, rich pastels, rose red, lily blue. Also, you are going to see more embroidery that represents spring or embellishments such as poofs or ruffles. Look 1; Look 2; Look 3

Pinup Girls_ this look is inspired by the pinups of the 1940s. You will definately see inspired looks from sex and the city. For this look, think high waisted; risque-cover ups (referencing bottoms); and traditional cuts Look 1; Look 2; Look 3

80s_ i think for those who lived it... you will know what i mean. For those who dont know, think cool but multi colors. Look 1; Look 2; Look 3

Space_ METALLICS, WHITE, METALLICS! This look may draw gasps and feelings of being unsure but its back so if you have your bags and shoes stowed away, bring them out! Look 1; Look 2; Look 3

Geometrics_ This is all about shapes and cuts. Wide-end openings; lines and shapes. Think chiffon tops and newer/edger versions of a Mumu. YES, i said mumu. Look 1; Look 2; Look 3; Look 4

Fashion Tip of the Week .50

So wow, 50 posts. what a great achievement. How great has it been since I first started this. What was supposed to be just for a few friends turns into something so much more than that. How cool is that.

Fashion Tip of the Week #50: But because I know people dont go back into my old posts, I'm going to do a repost because I think its the season for it. Everyone, I am talking about SALES!!! Yup thats right, when is the perfect time to go.

The perfect time to go shopping is at the end of the season clearance...

For spring its Late May/Early June

For summer [even tho most retailers dont have a summer-line..usually leftovers from spring] its end of august/beg. september.

For Fall, [back to school] its end of november to early december

For Winter its Mid-March through early april.

Then you have those semi-annual clearance sales... those usually happen mid season. OR the mid-season sales which are kind of a rip off cuz you get crappy prices when you know if you wait several weeks. It will go on sale for a lower price. But if its limited...then you should get it then. NOTE, midseason sales mean the 2nd part of their seasonal line is coming out and they are trying to make way for new crap. So look out for that. Some retailers try to rip you off then. AND REMEMBER... buy things you are actually gonna wear and that you know i would approve of (lol...jk)...but really pick out things that are flattering on you.

Featured Item of the Week: is finding me the perfect birthday present. Haha j/k. A lot of people feel like gift cards are the most inpersonal thing you can get someone. The best gift you can get someone is a gift card from AMEX/VISA/MASTERCARD. Yes thats right, from a bank. At least then, they can spend it on whatever they want and you will have the satisfaction of getting them something they really wanted (or helping them pay for those credit card bills _lol).

Fashion Tip of the Week .49

So ive finally made my decision on what i wanna do with my blog, but imma wait till my 50th post to let you know what that is (but you still have the chance to sway my decision)...hmmm what is it?!

Im almost at 3000 views! I need 52 more views and I need 8 more comments!!! Come help me out this week! Post like crazy! Spread the word of my blog! For the amount of people that normally read my blog, I am truly honored by the strong response that I've received. Thank you.

Fashion Tip of the Week #49: So Im trying to wait to give you guys a spring preview until it hits like mid-end November because spring is so far away. Now a lot of my girls know that im not big on dresses over jeans. But layering is in this season and is taking on a new version of layering. So ladies, this is addendum to my "Rules of layering" blog (fashion tip #16).

My Rules:

#11- Shirts with an empire cut that stops at the hips gives the dress over jeans effect.

#12- Mix different fabrics to give a textured look

#13- Deconstructed layers are always a plus, they fill in parts that the other layers didnt cover

#14- Belts are accessories, not layers!

#15- If you intend on wearing a coat or sweater, half-button or half-zip it up. Remember, the point of layers is to show off those layers, not hide them behind something.

Featured Item of the Week: Remember that horrendous trend in which every girl had those metallic bags? It got so overbearing that most girls ended up throwing their bags away! So here is the skinny. No more part metallic or what not. Ladies... full on metallic bags are the hottest accessories this season. For example, this Louis Vuitton Speedy Miroir bag in silver. Asking price for this piece of lovely, $1,150. Ladies, im sure you find a way around that.

Fashion Tip of the Week .48

Fashion Tip of the Week #48: So ladies, this week, I am going back to one of my favorite segments of my past blogs. And that is picking out pieces to make a complete outfit.

Look 1_ "Winter-warm". Take this puffed sleeved turtleneck, pair it up with denim shorts and finish it off with these buckled boots. Pull back you hair into a tail and you got a fantastic outfit for a trip anywhere. That is what we call a perfect casual outfit! It embodies all elements of fall wardrobe.

Look 2_ Looks can be based off anything... in this case, Steve Maddens, emphasizing one of the season's hottest trends in shoes, the peek-a-boo toe shoes, any outfit is possible. Take some skinny jeans (any color would be fine) and add a short sleeve smocked turtle-neck. In terms of accessories, a solid color knit golf hat would be perfect to add to it. Perhaps some metallic bangles and clutch to finish off the look.

Featured Item of the Week: So this week's featured item is one that will add a touch of sex appeal to any outfit. Think of this as an accessory to complete your look. This accessory is fake eyelashes. That's right ladies. Eyelashes can do so much to your outfit. It can kick it up a notch. A lot of the looks done with your eyes like smoking out the eye with a blend of shimmer and eye shadow is reminescent of Cleopatra. And the best thing about it, they are affordable.

Fashion Tip of the Week .47 [Guy's Edition]

So this time around, I havent really done a real guy's update. Sorry girls, next week okay? But this tip can also be used for your man. Remember, girls have power when it comes to dressing their man. haha

Fashion Tip of the Week #47 [Guy's Edition]: So alot of what I've said was already been stated... knits etc... Its tough trying to find new styles to each season. But alot of the rules that apply for women is the same for men. For this season, layers are important. Here are key things/looks that are the essentials for your autumn-winter wardrobe.

1_ Parka, fur trims are the in thing.
2_ Button-up or Pull-over vest off-setting the basic layers... layers are in.
3_ The studded belt is an added "to make it your own".
4_ Skinny ties
5_ Small plaid prints
6_ Knit Scarves
7_ Dress shoes, cmon everyone needs one! Added to wear with casual outfits
8_ For the modern guy, sheen is the new color
9_ Anything Merino - for those who dont know, its a type of material
10_ BULKY knit sweaters

Featured Item of the Week: So living in California, the sun is either your friend or your enemy. To protect your skin, I would recommend getting Neutrogena Ultra-Sheer Sunblock. Its affordable and worth every penny. It protects your skin and acts like a moisturizer! Stop by your local Wal-Mart or Target to get it.

Fashion Tip of the Week .46

Fashion Tip of the Week #46: I wrote a note to myself to discuss one of the breakout designers among the fall 2006 collections and I forgot to. So here is my shout out to one of the collections that I absolutely loved.

Peter Som is the designer I wanna discuss with you this week. Here are some of the things you have left to wear till end of January. I think his collection sums up what this season's trends are.

Here just take a look at some of the stuff that I loved.
Look 1_ High rise pants with waist cinching buckle
Look 2_ City shorts with subtle metallic threads and a subtle fur frock.
Look 3_ Velvet skirt with a over-embellish print chiffon blouse
Look 4_ Subtle usage of metallics. Round neck tops w/ pocketed a-line skirts (w/ minor roushing)
Look 5_ The epitome of the warm-weather dressing. Cute aint it? Perfect for any body type. If you are tall then it will end up looking like a baby doll dress. If you have a wide waist, the long bow strand draws attention away front the waist and elogates your height. This dress is truly versatile.

Featured Item of the Week: So after defiant attitudes towards leggings, I concede and will finally suggest (with caution) leggings are okay to wear provided that you have "legs for days"! Meaning, leggings aren't really meant for girls with big thighs. Seriously dont do it. Instead, for girls who are a bit on the "lots more to love" side, I would recommend another product for you girls, Spanx. From what I hear from all of my girl friends, they work and are comfortable and affordable. So find them at your nearest department store.

Side note: I just want to say that I make no apologies for the comments that I make on here. We all know its true, except I point it out. I am anything but discriminatory and have friends of all sizes that I make suggestions to. To me, all body types are beautiful, but beautiful is also wearing the appropriate garments to fit your body-type.

Fashion Tip of the Week .45 [Guys & Girls Edition]

So wow, tip 45, almost reaching # 50! How exciting. So I'm thinking of a make-over for this blog; specifically, perhaps making it into its very own myspace page.

Fashion Tip of the Week #45: So this week, I thought I'd elaborate on the knit idea and how you can adjust it to fit you. Remember, knits encompass ALOT of things. It could be a vest-pullover to knitted sweaters that your grandma gave you. ALOT.

Guys_ Here are some fantastic looks that mixes vintage chic and fashion forward looks. This is from DSQUARED2 Autumn/Winter 2005:
look 1 ~ this look emphasizes the fur trim on jackets. I turn back to their old collection because ALOT of the trends from A/W 05 returned. Hats are also a big plus this autumn/winter season.
look 2 ~ The professional knits. Here is how to incorporate knits back into your wardrobe without it being too casual. Emphasis on the v-neck vest-pullover. Punch ur outfit up with a black peacoat with brass buttons for a napoleonic era look. Simple stuff like that can make a HUGE difference.

Girls_ now i turn to Michael Kors Fall collection 2006 for the knit looks...
look 1 ~ This everything i want you to be wearing. To add some color, take a bold wide red belt and create a waist by placing it below your bust line. Add some 'net-stockings and bust out those red shoes you have been saving to wear for a special occasion.
look 2 ~ here is a way to take those city shorts that you have in your closet and mix it with your autumn/winter wardrobe. This look takes what could be drab into something fashionable. Take ur knitted sweater (which you use as a shirt), add a touch of the right accessories (skinny/thick scarves and mesopotamian bangle), add the city shorts and BOOM you got urself a quality outfit.

Featured Item of the Week: So this week u'll thank me... Continuing my mixture of expensive and cheaper priced items... go to your nearest PAYLESS Shoe store and get a pair of these boots. GIRLS, boots with buckles are a strong trend and to get what would be $500+ boots for only 45 dollars is a steal. The label: Abaeté; Boot name: Sky boot in black satin from designer Laura Poretzky.

Fashion Tip of the Week .44 [Guys & Girls Edition]

So this week's entry is jam packed full of goodness. Lets get going!

Fashion Tip of the Week #44: So ladies and gents, after much research about whats coming in, the general consensus for fall-winter is that the knits are back!

Knits_ Im talking knits galore! Guys: Knit turtlenecks with extra ruffle-age and girls: wearing full on knit dresses. I know its hot right now but once it cools down you'll see alot of knits coming out. Girls, think, Daniel Vosovic's dress with pockets (thats a personal shout out to my girl Lauren) but knitted instead.
For references to knits, I would suggest browsing through Vogue/Elle.

Honorable mention goes to...
Napoleonic_ I've already mentioned this once and I'll mention it briefly again, peacoats peacoats peacoats! Brass and/or detailed emobroidery counts!
Fur trim_ People who LOVE Burberry, check out their latest campaign. If you are anti Napoleon then this is the direction you wanna head to. Parkas and Knee-length coats with fur trim or the simple A-line skirt with the fur trim on the bottom. Tres chic.

Girls_ Like the featured item, accessories common among girls are the clinged up metals and silvers... But the flapper years are upon us and why not incorporate pearls into your deconstructed look? Off layers with waist-puffed shirts. Modernizing the flapper years is at its mid-life cycle. So jump on the bandwagon and wear it well!

Guys_ Try adding a little something like suspenders to your outfits. You will see alot of designers moving towards suspenders for Spring 2007! Try pairing them with deconstructed chinos or dress pant shorts. Be fashion forward!

Girls_ So since not alot of girls can find that perfect city shorts. For girls with larger thighs, you might want to consider cuffed shorts. And for girls who have smaller thighs and lack of a tush you might want to consider finding city shorts WITHOUT rear pockets and non-stretch. Here is an inside tip that pockets elongates the rear thereby giving an appearance of a long rear instead of a plump one! good luck!

I like to introduce a new feature to my blogs. And instead of listing tons and tons of this seasons must-haves at once, I present the new category "Featured Item of the Week".

Fashion Tip(s) of the Week #40: So for this week only (because of my return), I will offer several tips, but I will be scaling back a bit to allow myself enough material to last more weeks. I usually supply enough material to last months in one blog.

Fall Trends:

*_metallics- its back! Bust out those metallic shoes that were sittin in the closet and for those who are really daring, a metallic clothing piece.
*_Waist bubbles- what this is basically "puff" pieces. Things that puff up at the hips. Par example or this one.
*_Fur- furs are coming back in. Whether your preference is faux or real, a blend of fur/fabrics, In My Opinion, is better. 1, 2, 3
*_Oversized- This is really for the business-minded person. High-rise, wide pant leg opening. 1
*_Layering- enough said. Over-layering is the in thing
*_Napoleonic- brass buttons, tailored jackets, you get the idea. 1
